3 Tips for New Christians

Here are my 3 tips for new Christians:

  • Read the Bible for Yourself
  • Bible Versions Matter
  • Make Decisions According to the Bible

Read the Bible for Yourself
The Bible should be the foundation of your faith. God makes himself known to you through His word. You must read and know what the Bible says for yourself. Listening to sermons, being discipled or being told what the Bible says cannot substitute for having read the word yourself.

Read the Bible like a book. Start at Genesis and read through Revelation. Then start over. The time that it takes to get through the text is not important. If it takes months, years, or more, so be it. Getting the text into your heart, mind and spirit is what matters – no matter how long it takes.

Bible Versions Matter
The version of the Bible that you read matters. Use the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible. Do not be intimidated by the language. Read slowly and allow the Holy Ghost to teach you. It will make sense.

Do not be deceived – new Bible versions are corrupt. I cannot stress this enough. The New International Version (NIV), English Standard Version (ESV), Revised Standard Version (RSV) (used by Catholics), The Message, New King James Version (NKJV), New International Version (NIV), New Living Translation (NLT), New World Translation, etc. – all are corrupt.

One way that the devil has destroyed the faith of many Christians is by having his servants create, distribute and promote corrupt versions of the Bible. There is no unity in the church today because of this. The Bible is the foundation of the Christian faith – we should all be on the same page.

Make All Decisions According to the Bible
All decisions that you make as a Christian should line up with the Bible. This is why reading and knowing the Bible for yourself is of paramount importance. You will be faced with many decisions as a new Christian – what church to attend, who to associate with, what is correct biblical doctrine, how to raise a family, who to marry, what job to take, how to conduct yourself as a spouse. The list goes on and can seem overwhelming at first. If the Bible is your final authority for all decisions, it will become easier to discern what is the right choice for you as a Christian.

In addition, you will not be easily led astray by false teachers, prophets, ministries or doctrines if you rely on the Bible. You will know that the prosperity gospel is not supported by scripture. You will know that the Catholic faith does not comport with scripture. You will know that remarrying while an “ex-spouse” is alive goes against scripture. You will know that a church led by a woman goes against God’s word.

If something does not line up with the Bible, discard it and move on. The Bible should underlie every decision that a Christian makes. All of life’s issues are addressed in the Bible. No other source should override God’s word.
