The Purpose of a Christian Testimony

The purpose of a Christian testimony is to encourage people to seek Jesus for themselves.

Like the Samaritan woman did in Galilee after encountering Jesus at the well.

28The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

29Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

John 4:28-29 KJV

She proclaimed Jesus. She encouraged the men to come see for themselves – to see if what she said was true.

And they did.

30Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

John 4:30 KJV

Some believed on Jesus simply because of the woman’s testimony.

39And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

John 4:39 KJV

Others sought Jesus for themselves. They went looking for Him. When they found Jesus they asked Him to tarry with them.

He agreed.

Jesus always communes with those that seek Him in righteousness.

40So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

John 4:40 KJV

Now Jesus did what only He can do – bring them to the place of belief and salvation.

41And many more believed because of his own word;

John 4:41 KJV

The men’s belief is now based on their personal experience with Jesus.

Now, they know Him personally.

Now, they now have their own testimony.

They no longer have to depend on what the woman said.

42And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

John 4:42 KJV

Mission accomplished. Souls saved from damnation.

The purpose of your testimony is not to direct people to a particular denomination.

The purpose of your testimony is not to direct people to a specific church building.

The purpose of your testimony is not to direct people to a certain set of beliefs.

The purpose of your testimony is to encourage people to seek Jesus for themselves – to see if what you said about Jesus is true.

Your testimony doesn’t save souls – Jesus does.

Testify of Jesus.

Encourage people to seek Jesus for themselves.

Know that Jesus will show up to all those that seek Him in righteousness.

Watch Jesus reveal Himself and do the work of salvation.

Rejoice as another lost soul comes to Christ.

Be blessed.
