The Book of Revelation | Notes and Thoughts (Chapters 1-3)

I am reading the book of Revelation.  Here are some notes/thoughts on the text (Chapters 1-3).  If you are also reading Revelation, please feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.

  • God gave a revelation to Jesus Christ.  Jesus Christ shared this with his servant, John, and told him to write a book and send it to seven churches in Asia.

    • Revelation 1:1 (KJV)
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John. (Revelation 1:1)
    • Revelation 1:11 (KJV)
Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto and Laodicea.
  • What was Jesus’ message to the churches?
    • Repent (Revelation 2:5, 2:21-22, 3:3, 3:16, 3:19 KJV)
    • Be faithful (Revelation 2:10 KJV)
    • Do not be taken in by false doctrines (Revelation 2:14-15 KJV)
    • Do not tolerate Jezebel (Revelation 2:20 KJV)
    • Do not commit fornication or eat things sacrificed to idols (Revelation 2:20 KJV)
    • Hold fast until he comes (Revelation 2:13, 2:25, 3:3, 3:11 KJV)
    • Do not deny the faith (Revelation 2:13 KJV)
    • Be watchful (Revelation 3:2 KJV)
    • Keep his word (Revelation 3:8 KJV)
    • Do no deny his name (Revelation 3:8 KJV)
  • Jesus sees what we are doing.  He knows what the enemy is doing to us.
    • Revelation 2:2-3 (KJV)
I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:  And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
    • Revelation 2:9 (KJV)
I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

  • Don’t be afraid!  Jesus will reward you for your faithfulness.
    • Revelation 1:17 (KJV)
…Fear not; I am the first and the last:
    • Revelation 2:10 (KJV)
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life.
    • Revelation 2:26 (KJV)
And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
    • Revelation 3:5 (KJV)
He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
    • Revelation 3:21 (KJV)
To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

  • Jesus rebukes and chastens those that he loves.
    • Revelation 3:19  (KJV)
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

  • Jesus is always near and available to us.  We just have to call on Him.
    • Revelation 3:20 (KJV)
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

  • Listen to the Spirit.
    • Revelation 3:22 (KJV)
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
  • We are blessed when we read, hear and do what is written in the book.
    • Revelation 1:3 (KJV)
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
