Why Hast Thou Sought?

As I was reading scripture today I came across this verse:

Wherefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand? (2 Chronicles 25:15 KJV)

Amaziah was the king of Judah and God had just helped him win a battle against the children of Seir.  Instead of worshiping the God who delivered the victory (The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) Amaziah decided to worship the god of the people that God had just helped him to defeat.

What nonsense!

A prophet comes to Amaziah to ask why he would worship a god that let their people be defeated?  Why turn away from the one true God that helped you be victorious?

I see so much of this in the world today.  People and nations that used to put God first start worshiping false gods and idols after God has given them the glory.

What did America do after God made us the greatest country this world has ever known?

We turned to “spirituality”, consumerism, the love of money, New Age, yoga, “the power of positive thinking”, the power of self, gurus – anything instead of worshiping and obeying the one true God.

Why hast thou sought?

God is very clear about only worshiping him and staying away from idols.

Every person and nation that disobeys these commandments faces the same outcome.
