I finished reading 1 Chronicles today. I continue to be amazed at how quickly God answers me when I have questions as I read scripture.
In this passage from 1 Chronicles, David is giving instructions to his son Solomon about what he should do as king:
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. (1 Chronicles 28:9 KJV)
As I was reading this passage I wondered “What is a perfect heart?” What does that mean? God provided the answer in the next chapter.
As David is praying to God he touches once again on having a perfect heart:
And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes and to do all these things, and to build a palace, for the which I have made provision. (1 Chronicles 29:19 KJV)
So a perfect heart keeps the commandments, testimonies and statutes of God.
